- ➤ Indiana Landmarks released its Ten Most Endangered Sites list that names South Bend’s West Side Recreation Club for neglect and a lack of repair funds. The nonprofit said the list aims to spur repairs and increase public awareness—Kiwanis Field in LaPorte is also on the list. WSBT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ South Bend police assisted Elkhart County officers during a welfare check on Aug. 17 that led them to find a man and a woman unresponsive in a car on Pulaski Street with fatal gunshot wounds — autopsies are scheduled for today in Kalamazoo as the investigation continues. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ An 8-year-old girl was shot late Sunday night on Lindenwood Drive West in South Bend and is in critical condition—while a woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and police are investigating the case. WSBT
- ➤ A circulating video showed a South Bend officer detaining a young person at McDonald's after a 911 call on Friday at 1 p.m.—Mayor James Mueller said SBPD will soon share edited bodycam footage as part of a careful review process. ABC 57
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ South Bend is getting a multimillion-dollar addition that will connect the Raclin Murphy Encore Center to the Morris Performing Arts Center—creating new public spaces. The project will add a large lobby, new restrooms, a grand staircase, and a bar and lounge available for rent—and is expected to finish by the end of 2025 or early 2026. WSBT

- ➤ Notre Dame football announced six permanent captains for the 2025 season—Drayk Bowen, Adon Shuler, Donovan Hinish, Billy Schrauth, Aamil Wagner and Will Pauling—on Monday. The team will begin its season on Aug. 31 at Miami. South Bend Tribune
