COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Concerts are scheduled in the South Bend area for Aug. 25 to 31 with many free and low-cost events. Local shows include Big Daddy Dupree’s performance in Seitz Park on Aug. 29 and a country music act at John E.N. Howard Bandshell on Aug. 27, and fans should bring lawn chairs or blankets.  South Bend Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • South Bend police and St. Joseph County officers served a warrant at Laurel Woods Apartments on Monday, Aug. 25, where a suspect barricaded himself near St. Patrick’s Park, prompting SWAT to join at 11:30 a.m. and move in at 3 p.m.—apartments 601—615 were evacuated.  South Bend Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Severe storms and floods disrupted BP’s Whiting Refinery as cleanup continues and gas prices jumped by over 10 cents a gallon in Indiana. Experts say if repairs go smoothly, prices may drop a few cents by Labor Day weekend — neighboring refineries will help bring in extra fuel.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington High School in South Bend saw its graduation rate jump from 64.62% in 2024 to 87.77% in 2025 when over 120 seniors celebrated at Notre Dame—Principal Kevin Goralczyk said the boost motivated teachers, parents, and students to work together for success.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Since they first played 70 years ago, wins in the Notre Dame-Miami game have been seen as a key step toward a national championship. Notre Dame will face Miami on Aug 31 and leads the series with an 18-8-1 record, with three recent title runs coming after wins over Miami.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame football cornerback Christian Gray has turned a painful play in the Ohio State loss into a drive to improve his technique—he credits teammates, coaches, and church advisors for his recovery—and now he is preparing to face Miami's overhauled receivers this Sunday night, Aug. 31.  South Bend Tribune
