COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ABC57's 2025 Marshall County Blueberry Festival Sweepstakes ended with six winners—Aaron Robbins, Bob Vest, Linda Deforest, Thomas Blunt, Ramie George, and Chad and Lina Sommers—each set to receive two Pay One Price ride passes, one festival parking pass, $20 in Blueberry Bucks, two festival t-shirts, certificates, and one VIP fireworks seating pass valued at about $200.  ABC 57

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend, South Bend Fire Department responded to two kitchen fires that injured people and Assistant Chief Derek Erquhart advised residents to stay in the kitchen—watch oil temperatures and keep fire extinguishers or stove top fire stops ready—to prevent a fire from spreading.  WSBT

CRIME NEWS

  • Caleb Ringer, 24 from Niles, was arrested after a six-hour standoff at Laurel Woods Apartments in South Bend on August 25 when he barricaded himself in a bathroom and threatened police—officers used distraction devices to enter safely—and he was later treated at a hospital and booked in St. Joseph County Jail for outstanding Michigan warrants and a probation violation in Elkhart County.  South Bend Tribune
  • Police released details on Monday after they responded to Laurel Woods Apartments following a tip that suspect Caleb Ringer—wanted in Elkhart and Michigan for multiple charges—barricaded himself in a bathroom, and negotiators later used distraction devices to bring him and another person into custody.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Mary’s College was awarded a $1.1 million grant for the Kessler Scholars Collaborative to support first-generation low-income students with early move-in opportunities and internships— the four-year grant will impact over 1600 students across 16 Indiana campuses and will see 18 new scholars begin this academic year.  ABC 57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph County and partners approved a memorandum of understanding to provide water and sewer services to the planned Microsoft data center near Cleveland Road and Capitol Avenue—officials said the next 45 to 60 days will be used to develop service maps and conduct engineering studies as they build a long-term partnership.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • IU South Bend's nursing program received a grant from the Valinhos Foundation to certify 150 nursing students and faculty in mental health, first aid, and suicide prevention — a three-year effort to train professionals to detect and de-escalate mental distress on campus and in hospitals.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame will decide on its right guard starter for Sunday’s opener against Miami during Tuesday and Wednesday practices—redshirt freshman Guerby Lambert and redshirt sophomore Sullivan Absher are competing—after projected starter Charles Jagusah was injured this summer.  South Bend Tribune
