BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fresh Thyme Farmers Market said its Mishawaka store at Wilshire Plaza will close on Sept. 18 after nearly 10 years of service because the lease was not renewed. Its hours will be reduced to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Sept. 8—while the company helps employees find local work.  South Bend Tribune
  • Fresh Thyme Market will close its Mishawaka store on September 19 because it did not renew its lease—company officials said low sales have forced the decision and they will help affected team members find local jobs.  WSBT
  • Salvation, a bar and event space, and Momentum Entrepreneurship Hub, an office rental space, opened on Sept. 2 in downtown South Bend after taking over the former Salvation Army building — they now offer local venues for gatherings and business activities.  South Bend Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old man was jailed after hitting a South Bend police patrol car head-on on Sept. 3—he was charged with misdemeanors for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and for alleged minor alcohol consumption.  South Bend Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, Grammy Award winner Zach Bryan will headline a nearly sold-out concert at Notre Dame Stadium at 7 p.m. with Shane Gillis and Dermot Kennedy also performing—parking opens at 12 p.m. and tailgating is allowed in a cashless venue with a clear bag policy.  WSBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Potawatomi Zoo announced that Masamba, the southern white rhino, will leave for The Wilds—a 10,000-acre conservation center in Cumberland, Ohio—sometime this fall following a breeding recommendation to join five to six female rhinos. The zoo said it will welcome a new southern white rhino in spring to boost the species' population.  ABC 57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kennedy Park in South Bend will soon undergo a $15 million renovation funded by federal and city dollars to add amenities like a new aquatic center, pickleball and basketball courts, and an updated playground. The park’s conceptual plan was presented on Thursday and construction will begin in spring 2026—work is expected to finish by 2027.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame will kick off its basketball season with an outdoor block party called Irish Jam at Eddy Street Commons on Oct 3—fans can join mini tournaments, games and giveaways from noon until 4 p.m. Coaches Micah Shrewsberry and Niele Ivey will introduce the teams at 6 p.m. at a free event that aims to bring Irish basketball closer to South Bend.  ABC 57
