CRIME NEWS

  • A SWAT standoff is underway at a Granger home off Grape Road near Hamilton and Barton Streets—police have used a loudspeaker and flash grenade and have warned the public to avoid the area.  South Bend Tribune
  • Human trafficking is happening in Indiana as police say traffickers use big events and transport centers to lure victims—Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Coffey noted a suspect was arrested in St. Joseph County last week and Beth White from the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault explained that legal activities often turn harmful.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Bend Redevelopment Commission approved two major projects on the East Bank—phase two of The Cascade and The Yard, a public gathering space with a playground and food options. The Cascade has a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Sept. 12 to kick off new residential and commercial development.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said the upcoming game against No. 17 Texas A&M is crucial because his team will either match his longest losing streak or tie their record winning streak against SEC teams—he stressed that the strength of the opponent matters more than the conference label.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame will allow alcohol sales inside the stadium for its home opener Saturday — fans must be over 21, show valid ID, and can buy only two drinks per purchase with sales ending at the close of the third quarter.  WSBT
