- ➤ South Bend's Redevelopment Commission approved two major projects to reshape East Bank—The Yard will feature mixed-use renovations including public spaces like a concert lawn and playground, while Cascade Phase 2 will add about 20 condominiums and 10,000 square feet of commercial space with groundbreaking set for this Friday. - ➤ Barrio Tacos (which started in Cleveland in 2012) celebrated its grand opening on Eddy Street yesterday (Tuesday) and now offers handcrafted margaritas, house-made salsas, and fresh taco toppings in South Bend. WSBT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The intersection of Riverside and Boland Drive in South Bend is closed today as the reconstruction project enters its second phase and will finish mid-October — a detour is in place on Woodlawn Boulevard and Cleveland Road via Portage Avenue while Chet Waggoner Little League remains open at its north side off Cleveland Road. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Researchers say that kissing bugs, which can pass a parasite causing Chagas disease, have been reported in many states including Indiana—but no Indiana resident has yet shown signs of infection. Test results revealed that nearly half of the bugs from 31 states carried the parasite, while human cases have been reported in eight states. South Bend Tribune
