- ➤ The second annual Bone Frog Open—Irish Edition is underway at Notre Dame Stadium, raising money for military personnel, veterans, and first responders. After Sunday's auction and speeches, the Uncommon Grit Foundation will launch the golf tournament at Warren Golf Course today. ABC 57
- ➤ South Bend firefighters helped support fellow firefighter Cody Stillson's family when his daughter was hospitalized at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. Firefighter Cortney Brooks coordinated with the Indianapolis Fire Department — Station 7 to offer encouragement during this difficult time. WSBT
- ➤ Portage Township will celebrate the renovation of Matthys Ballpark in South Bend on Sept. 20th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4700 Meadow Lane—exhibition baseball games, free hot dogs and snacks and a ceremonial ribbon cutting after remarks by Trustee Jason Critchlow and Matthys Little League President Shad Robakowski will mark the event. - ➤ More than 600 people gathered Sunday at Central Park in Mishawaka for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s to raise funds and awareness—organizers set a goal of $87,000 for research and local caregiver programs—and participants honored loved ones with a Promise Garden ceremony. ABC 57
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ South Bend and nearby communities will host festivals and events from Sept. 15 to Sept. 21. Highlights include a cemetery tour at St. Joseph Polish Roman Catholic Cemetery on Sept. 18, ghost tours at the Morris Performing Arts Center on Sept. 19, and the Nappanee Apple Festival running from Sept. 18 to Sept. 21, along with classic car cruise-ins, fall fests, arts cafes and haunted attractions. - ➤ Concerts are scheduled in the South Bend area this week with Cousin Curtiss performing at Stockroom East on Sept. 18 and the South Bend Cubs hosting the Michiana Summer’s End Music Festival at Four Winds Field on Sept. 19—music fans can enjoy a mix of blues, rock, and Americana in outdoor venues while many events offer free entry or low cover charges. - ➤ South Bend Community Schools responded to concerns over a teacher’s social media post following Charlie Kirk’s death by stating that they balanced staff rights with student safety—furthermore, Westville Community Schools had already taken legal measures regarding a former teacher's post. WSBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Michiana took part in the largest Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Mishawaka Central Park where dozens carried flowers in a Promise Garden ceremony to honor those affected. The event raised over $74,000 to fund research and help find a cure in Indiana. WSBT
- ➤ Families whose children once fought for life in the NICU gathered on Sunday at Saint Joseph Health System's NICU reunion to reconnect with the nurses who cared for them and celebrate the progress of these tiny survivors + hundreds of families attended the heartfelt event.
