  • On Friday, Sept. 19, volunteers from the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and Better World Books—such as Danielle Cochran and Zach Hess—loaded shopping carts full of food to help residents in need in South Bend.  South Bend Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University South Bend is offering a free seven-week Civic Leadership Academy that teaches about logical fallacies, disinformation, contacting elected officials and influencing policy decisions. The weekly classes run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 25 to Nov. 12 at The Grill on campus.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita sent legal guidance to school superintendents and university administrators saying they will be allowed to discipline or fire educators who make statements—such as excusing or celebrating a violent death—that disrupt school operations after receiving many parent complaints.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Edwardsburg High School senior Sarah Pippin led her volleyball team to a 17-8 record and 58 kills at the Byron Center tournament on Sept. 20—she values both winning and strong team bonds. Coach Sarah Strefling praised her play—she will join Valparaiso University next season as part of a Division 1 program.  South Bend Tribune
