COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ South Bend police and city leaders presented a safety plan for Fusion Fest in Howard Park, which will be held Saturday from 12 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The plan includes an increased police presence, bag searches, and a ban on weapons and backpacks—measures designed to prevent past incidents from recurring. - ➤ South Bend’s Economic Development Commission approved the New Day Intake Center project, an $18.8 million low-barrier shelter that will house 120 people to replace the Motels4Now program on Old Cleveland Road near the airport — the project uses a $4 million city forgivable loan and at least a $10 million investment from New Day. The shelter must be completed by Dec. 31 and will offer emergency services and support for the unhoused. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Yesterday in Mishawaka, officials and donors held an emotional groundbreaking for Miracle League Park, a new space designed for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. The park will offer a fully accessible baseball field—an inclusive playground, splash pad, accessible bathrooms, softball field, pavilions, and sensory areas—and is expected to be finished by July next year.
