- ➤ Max, a 6-year 9-month husky who has been at the Humane Society since December 2024, needs an experienced adopter in a home without other dogs or small children—his adoption fee is sponsored to help give him a fresh start. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Non-profit Mamas Against Violence holds a remembrance vigil tonight to honor victims of murder and support grieving families, and its leaders urge community members to join the effort to end gun violence — a call that shows no one grieves alone. WSBT
- ➤ Mishawaka resident Greg Evans has created a spooktacular Halloween display with a giant 12-foot skeleton on West 9th Street that is a hit with neighborhood kids and helps him manage his PTSD as a disabled vet. - ➤ Centre Township Library reopened on Sept 24 after a $1.5 million renovation that added a new outdoor space — complete with a walking path, fresh study rooms, and an upgraded children's play area. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ South Bend’s Fusion Fest returns on Sept. 27 and 28 at Howard Park as a celebration of world cultures with ethnic food, music, dance, and fun activities like a drone show and kids zone. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Road 933 and the section of Lincolnway near Laurel Street will close in Mishawaka for about two months starting September 30 for sewer, water main and other improvements between Mishawaka High School and downtown—officials said—drivers must follow a detour via Main Street or Capitol Avenue to reach McKinley. - ➤ South Bend Mayor James Mueller met with ABC57 anchor Summer Horan on Thursday to discuss the city's budget proposal, Fusion Fest plans, plus safety concerns across the city. ABC 57
- ➤ The Indiana DOT said that beginning on or after Sept. 30, S.R. 933/Lincolnway will be closed at the intersection with Laurel Street between Cedar and Merrifield Avenues for sewer, watermain and structure improvements—motorists will use a detour via Church Street—Main Street—McKinley Avenue and S.R. 331/Capital Avenue until late November. - ➤ South Bend approved advertising for three sites—a former auto repair shop at 1335 Portage Ave, the old Drewrys Brewing location at 1408 Elwood Ave, and a shopping center at Portage and Elwood—while officials said they do not expect bids and are targeting a single development. City officials noted that interest from developers has emerged and proposals will likely be requested next year. South Bend Tribune

- ➤ Notre Dame redshirt freshman offensive lineman Guerby Lambert balances football practice with his economics classes as he works to improve his game on a struggling offensive line—extra film study and teamwork have boosted his performance ahead of his team's next game at Arkansas. - ➤ Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love said his coach encouraged him to play free, which helped him develop his signature hurdling move after opponents tried to pull his helmet off during Tuesday's practice. - ➤ The Irish won their first game of the season last weekend and will face Arkansas tomorrow at noon in Fayetteville to try and turn their 1-2 start around—both teams will rely on key plays from running backs and disciplined defense to control the game. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman said that Arkansas defensive tackle Ian Geffrard is very big — he played 37 snaps in losses to Ole Miss and Memphis — and his team must adjust its blocking schemes.
