  • On October 3, First Fridays in downtown South Bend saw the Fire Department preview National Fire Prevention Week—displaying a ladder truck, hose demonstrations, and uniforms for trying—while families enjoyed a pumpkin-carving contest.  South Bend Tribune
  • Cyclists gather at Love Creek today at 10 a.m. for the Bike Michiana Coalition's annual Love Biketoberfest fundraiser to support bike safety and local trails—lunch is provided and participants must register online or at the gate.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Indiana Dinosaur Museum and South Bend Chocolate Company hosted Oktoberfest, celebrating German culture with traditional costumes, authentic cuisine, and live music—performed by a band in traditional garb.   • South Bend Tribune columnist Tom Noie released Part Four in his series on the top 25 individual moments in Notre Dame football over the past 25 seasons, featuring standout plays like Tony Jones’ key run in 2018 and Mitch Jeter’s game-winning field goal in 2025 — the article outlines crucial highlights that have defined the Fighting Irish era from 2000 to 2024.  South Bend Tribune
  • South Bend area high school girls’ golf teams competed at the IHSAA state finals Saturday, Oct. 4, and Northridge finished as the top local team with a school record seventh-place score at 678. Senior Alex Reschly earned the best individual finish in program history—other local teams including Saint Joseph and NorthWood also competed as Zionsville won the title.  South Bend Tribune
  • Jacy Abii, a top-9 women's basketball recruit and 6-foot-2-inch forward, committed to Notre Dame on Oct. 4—she chose the school over offers from UCLA, Tennessee, Texas, and LSU.   • Notre Dame football won 28-7 over Boise State yesterday as sophomore Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa led the defense with eight tackles, half a sack and a pass breakup.   • Fighting Irish Leprechaun McKenna—the first female lead at Notre Dame—appeared on ABC57 Kickoff with the Gold Cheer Squad. Every Saturday this season, she leads the team out of the tunnel during 'Here Come the Irish' in South Bend.  ABC 57

  • The 3rd annual South Bend Global Cup at Boehm Park featured 11 international teams and held a final match between the United Nations and Gajera—composed of players from Ghana and Nigeria—with Gajera winning the title.  ABC 57
  • Notre Dame snapped its slump last weekend by posting 641 yards against Arkansas—the most by any FBS team. Freshman quarterback CJ Carr threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns while the team prepares to test its offense against Boise State—which has a weak red-zone defense.  ABC 57
