COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ABC57 Kickoff is celebrating 10 years this season by revisiting a 2019 story about South Bend barber Julio Rodriguez, who became the go-to barber for Fighting Irish athletes — head coach Marcus Freeman now relies on him wherever he goes.  ABC 57
  • The ZB Falcons Conservation Club hosted a fall fest for the whole family — offering games, food, movies and candy, a free trunk or treat from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., a haunted hayride from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and a visit to Zygmunt's Forsaken Forest.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • ABC57 Kickoff hosted the Notre Dame and Saint Mary's Irish Dance Team on set where they demonstrated their award-winning skills. Molly O'Malley—Saint Mary's vice president of marketing and a sophomore—explained the origins of the dance and the team's long history.  ABC 57
  • Bob Nagle, a Michiana broadcasting legend with over 40 years in the industry, stopped by to discuss his career covering high school state titles and Notre Dame sports—drawing on his work from the press box and courtside.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from across the area attended the Girls with Altitude event at Goshen Municipal Airport, where they built airplane rudders, took flights, and spoke with a pilot who once completed a solo flight around the world. High school sophomore Emily Natelborg said the event opened her eyes to many aviation programs (in a field with less than 7% women), and organizers said they hope to break down barriers for young women in aviation.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Transportation announced lane closures on S.R. 23 on or after Oct. 13 from Mill Street to Renewable Road to allow median reconstruction and pavement patching. The road will be reduced to one lane at the U.S. 20 and 31 bypass and will see alternating lane closures near Mill Street — flaggers will direct traffic as construction lasts through Nov and resurfacing begins in spring.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame football center Ashton Craig left the field with an apparent left leg injury late in the third quarter against NC State—Joe Otting replaced him on the next offensive series. Craig had missed most of last season after tearing his left ACL, raising concerns for the team's depth.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame did not play well in the first half against North Carolina State — but they turned the game around by winning 36 to 7. Head coach Marcus Freeman said team changes and added teamwork helped — and they plan to use that boost in their next contest against USC.  South Bend Tribune
  • On Oct. 11, No. 16 Notre Dame played N.C. State at Notre Dame Stadium where sports reporters expected a strong win for the Irish—freshman quarterback CJ Carr had already impressed this season with high passing numbers.   • Notre Dame won 28 to 7 over Boise State with 24 penalty flags sparking heated debate on social media—raising concerns over team discipline as the Irish rode a three-game win streak. The team will face N.C. State next and plans to tighten tackling—aiming to keep their momentum alive.  ABC 57

  • Saint Joseph and Penn boys tennis teams won semistate titles Saturday—Saint Joseph beat Culver Academy 3-2 and Penn defeated Carroll 4-1—and they will face off in a quarterfinal match Friday, Oct 17 at 10 a.m. at North Central High School in Indianapolis as both teams aim to move on to state.  South Bend Tribune
