BUSINESS NEWS

  • AEW wrestlers Ruby SoHo and 'Cool Hand' Angelo Parker are part of an ownership group launching a new board game cafe called Victory Roll in Mishawaka — the venue will feature hundreds of board games, RPGs, a kids room, and local food offerings. Victory Roll is set to open Thursday, October 16 at noon.  ABC 57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of South Bend is set to demolish the vacant Rabbi Shulman apartment building next month after receiving funds on Oct 9 for a $1.5 million project. The city will then work with local agencies to build a new mixed-income housing project — including public, low-income and market-rate units — to replace lost affordable homes.  ABC 57
  • St. Joseph County Health Department is proposing a bill to change rules at massage parlors to fight human trafficking. The new proposal would allow unannounced inspections, require a licensed therapist on site, ban residents from living there, and show hotline posters, and county council members will discuss the changes in two weeks (councilwoman Drake supports the plan).  WSBT
  • Protesters will attend the No Kings rallies on Oct.18 across Indiana to exercise their First Amendment rights; in South Bend, the rally at 211 N Michigan St. runs from noon to 1:30 p.m.—guidelines advise filming police calmly and avoiding blocked traffic.  South Bend Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced nearly 245,000 pounds of Nate’s Fine Foods pre-cooked pasta are recalled after tests found listeria contamination that has caused 20 confirmed illnesses, four deaths, and several hospitalizations since June — the recall affects products available at major chains including Walmart, Kroger and Trader Joe’s in Indiana and other states. Health officials advise consumers to return or discard recalled items and clean any surfaces that may have been contaminated.  South Bend Tribune

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New data from Realtor.com shows that home sale prices in St. Joseph County increased in July, with the median home selling for $224,937—up 8.9% from June. Single-family homes had a median price of $224,004 while condominiums and townhomes reached $241,250, reflecting a notable market shift.  South Bend Tribune

  • Notre Dame football is preparing for a rivalry game against USC this week that will impact their playoff hopes+ During ABC57's kickoff broadcast, head coach Marcus Freeman offered inspiring words about the matchup.  ABC 57
  • Penn State fired head coach James Franklin on Sunday after a three-game losing streak dropped the team from a No. 2 ranking and ended his 12-season stint with a record of 104 wins and 45 losses along with a $49 million buyout. Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said he respects Franklin and noted that a coaching job can change fast — a reminder not to get too comfortable.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman said Monday that starting center Ashton Craig suffered a season-ending left knee injury—ending his season after six games—and that third-year sophomore Joe Otting replaced him in the game against NC State.  South Bend Tribune
