COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Zoo Boo is back at Potawatomi Zoo where vendors hand out treats along a trick-or-treat trail and families can ride a haunted train and see animals. This year the event runs over two weekends—Heroes and Princesses this weekend and Witches and Wizardry next, with admission at $16 for adults, $14 for children up to 14, and free for kids under 2.  WSBT
  • St. Joseph County Parks Department invites residents to join a groundbreaking celebration for a new park at 10761 Anderson Road on Oct.22 at 4 p.m. The park, bought in 1999 and shaped by public input in the spring, will become a new space for the community + offering recreation and green space.  ABC 57
  • Trick-or-treat events for Halloween have been scheduled for South Bend and nearby areas with events today at Pinhook Park from 12pm to 2 p.m. and a cops and goblins treat night at Four Winds Field from 5pm to 7:30 p.m.—other events in neighboring counties run from October 23 through November 1—offering local families varied ways to celebrate.  WSBT
  • South Bend Civic Theatre will host a free community lunch and play on Oct.20 to address youth gun violence. The lunch runs from noon to 1 p.m. at South Bend Scottish Rite at 427 N. Main St. and the play starts at 7 p.m. at Civic at 403 N. Main St.—reservations are required.  South Bend Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legend Park is adding an outdoor express train ride and new food options this year as it expands its attractions for visitors of all ages. The small amusement park also features six haunted attractions—like the award-winning Ward 13—showing its continued growth in local entertainment.  ABC 57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mishawaka High School is one of the top 25 finalists in the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights contest and the only Indiana school in the running for a million dollar prize—its $30,000 winnings will go toward sports upgrades and operational needs. Community voting is open through October 24 to select the winner, and T-Mobile has planned a special tailgate for the school.  WSBT
  • Clara Walton of Adams High School was named the Tribune's Student of the Week for Oct. 13 as she was recognized for her strong academics, arts performances, and Quiz Bowl contributions (Tribune readers cast their votes based on her many achievements).  South Bend Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, high school football teams in South Bend and across Indiana played games with many varied scores - Tippecanoe Valley won 31-7 over Bremen and Crown Point defeated Michigan City 42-28 - as teams in the local and state matchups posted results that evening.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame beat Butler 77-76 in an exhibition game at Hinkle Fieldhouse Friday, Oct. 17 — the game was the first at Hinkle since 1995 and saw several lineup changes with freshman Jalen Haralson making key plays. Coach Micah Shrewsberry said the team tried different combinations to learn what works best as they prepared for the season.  South Bend Tribune
