COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Newton Park moved its annual free trunk or treat indoors on Saturday because of weather concerns — early gate access was offered for special needs families to ensure a safe event. The event raised food allergy awareness and Disney’s classic Hocus Pocus will be shown today at 5:30 p.m. at the indoor facility.  WSBT
  • On October 18, about 1,000 to 2,000 people gathered in downtown South Bend’s Jon Hunt Plaza for the 'No Kings 2' protest organized by the Michiana Alliance for Democracy as part of a national day of action against federal policies—organizers said the event began at noon with a program of speakers and a march along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mishawaka will begin fall leaf pickup on October 27, and residents may start placing clean, debris-free leaves at the curb starting (October 25 and 26) so crews can follow a schedule based on each household’s regular trash pick-up day. Residents must ensure that the leaves are free of branches, twigs, stones, or similar items to avoid delays.  ABC 57

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marc Weizcorak, a South Bend native and lifelong Notre Dame fan diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 22 and placed in hospice care in January, has one golden wish—returning to Our Lady’s University before his time ends.  ABC 57

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame football beat No. 21 USC 34—24 on a rainy Indiana night as star running back Jeremiyah Love rushed for 228 yards on 24 carries. The win brought Notre Dame to a 5—2 record as the team now eyes a chance at the College Football Playoff.  South Bend Tribune
  • Freshman Emily Noto and junior Kam Burns led Penn High School volleyball to a 3-1 win over Mishawaka in the Class 4A LaPorte Sectional on Saturday night, with Noto earning 18 kills and Burns adding 16. The victory secured Penn its 20th sectional title and set them up for a one-match regional against Warsaw next Saturday at 7 p.m.  South Bend Tribune
  • Former Notre Dame safety Ray Herring—welcomed by the ABC57 Kickoff crew—discussed his career and shared his thoughts on this season's team in South Bend.  ABC 57
  • On a rainy Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium, football officials ruled out nickelback DeVonta Smith—removed after seven snaps due to a calf injury—and center Ashton Craig, who suffered a knee injury, while wide receiver Jaden Greathouse remained a game-time decision ahead of the USC game.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame Stadium will soon fill with Irish fans wearing gear featuring the iconic Fighting Irish Leprechaun logo, which was created by a South Bend artist—an influential design in college sports—linking local art to enduring team pride.  ABC 57
