South Bend Public Works will start a leaf collection program in early November to remove fallen leaves from streets and storm drains so that they do not clog catch basins.

Nate Bosch from the Lilly Center for Lakes and Streams said too many decomposing leaves add extra nutrients that may lead to harmful algae blooms—residents are urged not to dump leaves into gutters or local streams.
