- ➤ Forty-five years ago—Oct. 31—the Mark di Suvero sculpture 'Keepers of the Fire' was installed on the St. Joseph River behind Century Center using a giant crane from Gary and efforts from multiple local groups that honored Potawatomi heritage; the work, once controversial for its design and color, now stands as a lasting public art achievement in South Bend.
