- ➤ This week, community meals will take place at various local venues from Nov. 6 to Nov. 21 — featuring Burger Night at Galien American Legion Post, fish fries at Our Lady of Hungary School Gym and Knights of Columbus, Polish dinners at MR Falcons, and more. Residents will enjoy meals priced from $5 to $20 with dine-in and carryout options — offering a range of dishes from burgers and fish to regional specialties. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill at 507 E. McKinley Ave. in Mishawaka is offering free meals to those in need during the first week of November to support people facing financial hardships and will serve a variable Community Plate for dine-in customers only – management notes the offer may change if supplies run out. - ➤ Local groups in South Bend are hosting a series of Veterans Day events on Nov. 11—offering free meals, rides on the South Shore Line, concerts, and special programs for veterans and active-duty military—and residents can also access discounted services and museum admissions at various local venues. - ➤ Potawatomi Zoo welcomed a baby white-faced saki on October 17—officials said mom Ella is caring for the newborn while its sex remains unknown. WSBT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A wide range of events began on November 3rd and will continue through November 9th in South Bend and nearby areas—offering plays, concerts, a WWI exhibit, holiday bazaars, craft shows, and gaming lock-ins. Local museums, theaters and community centers will host these activities, giving residents a mix of art, music and festive celebrations as the fall season moves into the holidays. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Joyelle McSweeney— a Notre Dame poet and English professor— competed on Jeopardy on Monday at 7:30 p.m. on WSBT, facing a retired educator from Louisiana and a returning champion pastor from Wisconsin. WSBT
- ➤ AC/DC will perform at Notre Dame Stadium on September 4 — tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. for the Power Up tour stop in South Bend. WSBT
- ➤ Notre Dame announced that AC/DC will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2026 at Notre Dame Stadium—The Pretty Reckless will open the show and tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7. South Bend Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Penn-Harris-Madison school board announced a new Penn Township representative at a special meeting held Monday at 9 a.m.—replacing former member Matt Chaffee after his resignation. WSBT
- ➤ Six South Bend high school marching bands advanced from semistate rounds to compete at the ISSMA state finals on November 8 at Lucas Oil Stadium—each team represents one of four enrollment classes. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $20 for children, and the first performance starts at 9:25 a.m.—available via Ticketmaster and the stadium box office. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation's Superintendent Dr. Heather Short and administration presented a tentative teachers' agreement that includes a roughly 3.45% base salary boost, increased starting and maximum salaries, extra pay for coaching and an Early Literacy Endorsement, plus health insurance changes—details retroactive to July 1 through June 30—and the school board will vote on the agreement on November 10.
