- ➤ A new grocery store, Mor Mex, opened on the West Side on Friday with a ribbon cutting at Western Ave and S Olive St as city leaders say it meets a key community need. The family-owned market offers fresh produce, meats, and a dining area + residents now have a closer option for their grocery needs. WSBT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Thirty-two Lego robotics teams from Elkhart and St. Joseph counties will compete today at Success Academy South Bend Public Charter School at 3408 Ardmore Trail where they will solve multiple robotics challenges. Team check-in is at 8 a.m. and the competition events begin with opening ceremonies at 10:15 a.m. followed by robot rounds at 10:30 a.m. South Bend Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The White House announced plans to shift funds from permanent homeless shelters like Motels4Now and New Day Intake Center to transitional housing in South Bend, reducing federal support that local shelters rely on + this change is expected to strain services and may lead to higher local taxes if it forces a rise in homelessness. Saint Mary’s College professor Sean Savage said the move does not match the intended mission of promoting self-sufficiency among vulnerable residents + he warned that local shelters may not be ready for the increased demand.
