- ➤ South Bend will hand out about 400 spaghetti to-go meals on Nov. 19 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center and on Nov. 20 at the Charles Black Community Center from 4 to 6 p.m. each time—meals include green beans, corn and bottled water and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Perkin's Restaurant on State Road 933 at the Toll Road entrance in South Bend will close on November 30—competition and increased food deliveries prompted the decision. About 25 employees will transfer to the Elkhart location from the 30 year old establishment. WSBT
- ➤ Kabelin Ace Hardware, a chain with stores in South Bend, Walkerton, Granger, New Carlisle, LaPorte, and Michigan City, was sold to Houchens Food Group on Friday as announced on social media. The new deal will allow the company to improve its building upgrades and expand product selections — changes that may affect local shoppers and store operations. WSBT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Indiana Arts Commission is giving up to $5,000 for arts projects that honor American history in anticipation of the nation’s 250th anniversary—eligible groups including nonprofits, government units, libraries and schools must apply by Dec. 15 for projects planned from March 1 to Dec. 31, 2026—an informational webinar is set for 10 a.m. ET on Nov. 20. - ➤ Currant Road between Cleveland Road and Woods Trail in Granger has been closed since Monday for CN rail work—drivers may experience delays as crews work on the tracks. Authorities expect the project to wrap up by Saturday—helping ease the detours for local commuters. WSBT
- ➤ Drivers in South Bend encountered a detour when Riverside Drive between Michigan Street and Lafayette Boulevard was closed Monday for sewer work—detours via Bartlett Street will remain until December 12. WSBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the Pokagon Band donated $100,000 to Beacon Health from proceeds of the Four Winds Invitational Golf tournament held in August. Beacon Children's Hospital will use the funds to purchase the NICU2Home device, which helps families prepare for their baby's transition home from the neonatal unit — a boost for real-time communication.
