  • South Bend International Airport is hosting its annual Bears in the Air program to support local residents with a good cause — drawing community members to help those in need. The event offers a chance for local supporters to contribute to a meaningful tradition.  WSBT

  • The Oliver Mansion known as Copshaholm was decorated for Christmas on Tuesday, Dec. 2 in South Bend. The venue will host Christmas at Copshaholm events on Dec. 7 and Dec. 14.  South Bend Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Notre Dame is exploring new federal funding opportunities for space research after professor Dr. Kate Biberdorf visited Capitol Hill on Wed., Dec. 3. She said proposals must be submitted before Christmas to support nuclear chemistry research for upcoming space exploration.  WSBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sub-zero temperatures today may freeze water pipes if actions are not taken; Citizens Energy advises residents to open cabinet doors and let faucets drip to protect plumbing. Homeowners should insulate pipes and know the water shut-off valve to prevent costly repairs.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Shore secured local funding to move its airport terminal from the east to the west side of South Bend International Airport, cutting travel time by 12 to 15 minutes and reducing rail crossings from 22 to 3. The project awaits federal funding and FAA approval — groundbreaking may begin late 2026.  WSBT
  • Indiana DNR is accepting nominations for a 15-member Trails Advisory Board from Dec. 1+30 for outdoor enthusiasts representing hikers, bikers and other groups statewide. Selected members will serve a three-year term starting in March 2026 and attend quarterly in-person meetings at 3 p.m. in various locations.  South Bend Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame football signed 27 Class of 2026 recruits on Dec. 3 with no decommitments, and 24 will join in January. Coach Marcus Freeman praised the program’s focus on defensive talent (including top five-star recruits) to build a strong team for upcoming games.  South Bend Tribune
  • Legendary coach Steve Anderson will lead Team Indiana in the inaugural High Flyer Showcase at Mishawaka High School (The Cave) on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.  South Bend Tribune
  • On Tuesday, Notre Dame basketball beat Missouri 76-71 at Purcell Pavilion after coming back from a 12-point deficit. The team showed teamwork and grit, which head coach Micah Shrewsberry said kept their belief alive as they fought through adversity.  South Bend Tribune
  • Riley girls basketball is overcoming a tough offseason — uniting behind coach Karl Columbus as transfers and returning players build new team chemistry. The Wildcats are 2-4 and working to gain trust and improve their play this season.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame football finished the season with ten straight wins by 10 points or more, boosting their chance to join the College Football Playoff (CFP). Analysts will decide if the strong finish secures the local team a postseason spot.  South Bend Tribune
