COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hosted by the South Bend Entrepreneurship and Adversity Program, the Be Your Own Santa holiday market returns today from 11:00 to 2:00 pm at Ignition Park Catalyst Two Building. The event offers holiday shopping with homemade crafts, baked goods, live music, and artwork.  WSBT
  • The Buchanan family transformed McCollum’s at the Grant Hotel into a festive holiday pop-up bar with Christmas trees and a letters to Santa station. Santa will attend brunch on December 14, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., and a New Year's Eve party is scheduled for December 31 at 7 p.m.  WSBT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, Dec. 6, firefighters rushed to a large house fire on Roosevelt Road in Walkerton and closed the road between Adams and Michigan while Operation Lend A Hand assisted the affected family and investigators looked into a possible electrical cause.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • University Park Mall hosts free holiday fun this weekend with Notre Dame Football players and Santa. A sensory-friendly Santa experience is scheduled today and story time is set for Monday (11 a.m. to noon), while the Santa Photo Experience remains open through Christmas Eve.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Drew Davis of NorthWood High School was named The Tribune's Student of the Week for Dec. 1 — recognized for his academic and athletic achievements. Nominations also came from Adams High, and next week’s nominees will be announced Monday.  South Bend Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Dec. 5, Notre Dame football held its Echoes Awards dinner—Heisman candidate Jeremiyah Love was named MVP after breaking a 34-year touchdown record, and CJ Carr tied for second in yards per attempt as starter. The awards come as the team readies for postseason play.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame was bumped to the #10 spot in Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings — with Alabama and BYU losing in their championship games — and now awaits final selections today.  ABC 57
  • Thirty-eight players from 15 high schools were named to IFCA Senior and Junior All-State teams on Saturday, with Concord senior Char'rese Breveard (the only Top-50 pick) leading the local honors.  South Bend Tribune
