BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two deputy sheriffs are launching the first Cousins Maine Lobster food truck in March 2026 to serve Gary, South Bend and Elkhart markets — a second truck will follow in early 2027 for Fort Wayne as part of a plan to open over 30 trucks statewide.  South Bend Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Childcare providers in St. Joseph County will get free support from LOGAN Center therapists at 11 select daycare programs over three years. The program trains staff to support children with disabilities (using occupational, physical, speech, and developmental therapies) and tackles growing childcare gaps.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents at Karl King Tower have been without heat for days as only three of six boilers work. City officials and Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow have provided about 100 space heaters and began inspections today (Dec. 10) to restore warmth.  WSBT
  • St. Joseph County commissioners urged the county council on Dec. 9 to approve a proposed state-of-the-art data center that will bring millions in revenue and hundreds of tech jobs while avoiding tax increases. They stressed that the project offers long-term economic growth for local families.  South Bend Tribune

  • Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua joked that even Hollywood may be interested in Irish football coach Marcus Freeman (turning 40 in January) for his impressive work with the team.  South Bend Tribune
  • During a Dec. 9 news conference, Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua confirmed that head coach Marcus Freeman’s contract is revised annually (to ensure top-tier compensation) amid renewed NFL interest and continued success on the field.  South Bend Tribune
  • On Dec. 7, Notre Dame football, once seen as CFP-bound, withdrew from bowl game consideration after team captains and coach Freeman decided to keep the full roster intact. Athletic director Pete Bevacqua explained the move minimized the risk of injury given potential NFL schedules.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua stated Tuesday that the school will not limit transfer portal recruiting to the ACC while upholding strict academic standards (previous top transfers have come from ACC schools including key quarterbacks).  South Bend Tribune
  • Markus Burton, a junior guard for Notre Dame, injured his left ankle in Friday's TCU game and will have surgery Wednesday (there is no timetable for his return), coach Micah Shrewsberry said. The team is preparing to adjust its lineup for upcoming home contests.  South Bend Tribune
