- ➤ South Bend police officer Phil Trent, noted for his intelligence and care, died Dec. 2 after a long illness. A visitation + memorial service is scheduled for Dec. 14 at Palmer Funeral Home at 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend Tribune
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ While 19 states will raise the minimum wage on Jan. 1, Indiana will keep its $7.25 rate unchanged since 2009 (a figure that experts say falls well below a living wage for many workers). South Bend Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ IDEM will host a public meeting Tuesday night in Michigan City on the air permit for the Project Maize data center — which proposes installing 70 diesel backup generators — while residents can submit written comments until Dec. 15 before a decision is reached. ABC 57
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Bend Housing and Urban Development office confirmed that a contractor repaired (2 of 12) boilers at Karl King Towers on Sunday after the system failed, restoring partial heat for residents. Portable heaters were given while management orders replacement parts and continues monitoring conditions. WSBT

- ➤ Notre Dame women’s basketball suffered a setback after senior KK Bransford injured her right leg/knee during the game against Morehead State on Thursday, Dec. 11. She was ruled out at the start of the third quarter, deepening the team’s roster challenges. South Bend Tribune
- ➤ Former Notre Dame linebacker coach Max Bullough left the Irish after three seasons and joined Michigan State as co-defensive coordinator under coach Pat Fitzgerald — he notably helped three linebackers reach the NFL. South Bend Tribune
