COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Portage Township Trustee Office held its first December holiday meal distribution on Sunday afternoon in South Bend. Volunteers served 150 free hot meals (ham, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, dessert, and 60 cherry pies donated by Yellow Cat Cafe) and then gave out food pantry items when supplies ran out.  WSBT
  • The Blasko Family adjusted their Christmas light show hours for cold weather after a busy Saturday night — they will welcome visitors from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  WSBT
  • The History Museum displayed excerpts from the local Tribune that included a 1927 report stating Robertson Bros. on S. Michigan lost a fur coat—the seventh missing in two days & reflecting early retail crime in our area.  South Bend Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Bend School Board will vote tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Brown Administration Building to extend superintendent Mansour Eid’s contract through June 30, 2027. The board passed a motion earlier this month to proceed with the renewal ahead of Eid’s contract expiring this school year.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • The South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week poll is active today until Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11:59 p.m. Voters may cast one vote per hour — helping choose the top high school athlete from a list of local nominees.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame women's basketball senior KK Bransford injured her knee on Dec. 11 and is out indefinitely, though the injury does not require surgery (coach Niele Ivey confirmed). The team will adjust its lineup by starting grad transfer Malaya Cowles moving forward.  South Bend Tribune
  • Irish legends Ian Book and Tony Jones Jr. appeared on ABC57 Kickoff to discuss Saturday's game between Notre Dame and Syracuse and comment on Jeremyiah Love's Heisman Trophy chances; Book is Notre Dame's record-setting quarterback and Jones played in the NFL.  ABC 57
  • NDI's Tom Noie will host a Notre Dame basketball chat on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 8:30 a.m. (Leave your questions or comments on his X account @tnoieNDI) for fans to discuss the season.  South Bend Tribune
