COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau advises parents to check privacy policies (for toys and apps) and use secure sites when shopping online, as biased reviews and phishing scams may risk their children’s data.  South Bend Tribune
  • St. Joseph County Parks and Granger Paths are partnering on the new Anderson Trail County Park to build trails inside and outside the park. Granger Paths plans a connection from the west entrance of Terri Brooke Estates that could cut 1,100 feet of trail and save nearly $200,000.  South Bend Tribune
  • South Bend International Airport's Bears in the Air program donated a teddy bear to a patient at Memorial Children's Hospital today, highlighting local support for families.  South Bend Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • After the U.S. Mint stopped producing pennies last November, many local retailers are rounding cash transactions to the nearest nickel. Treasureology (in Granger) now offers a kitty fund option for community cats when pennies run out, as the final minted penny fetched over $16.7 million at auction.  WSBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mishawaka officials warned that rain melting leftover snow may clog storm drains today as leaves and sticks wash into drainage systems. Residents are urged to call the street department when clogged drains are spotted (a precaution to prevent freezing blockages).  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school basketball tournaments will run from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3 across local venues including Mishawaka, Homestead, and Goshen — while the 46th annual Al Smith Invitational wrestling event is set for Jan. 2 and 3 at Mishawaka featuring teams such as South Bend Saint Joseph and Riley.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame football running back Jadarian Price declared for the NFL Draft on Wednesday, Dec. 17 — joining teammate Jeremiyah Love — after missing a season with a torn Achilles despite one year of eligibility. Price is projected as a second-day pick with a four-year contract estimated at $7–12 million.  South Bend Tribune
