ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Midwest dropped slightly on Monday to an average of $2.69 per gallon, down from $2.72 last week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration; the regional price is about 7% lower than the national average.  South Bend Tribune
  • The former South Bend Tribune building is set to become Colfax Corner research hub offering 202,000 sqft and over 400 high-tech jobs; construction will begin in summer 2026 and finish in summer 2028, led by Ancora with Notre Dame and city officials.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow filed a formal complaint with Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita on Dec. 18 over dangerous living conditions at Karl King Riverbend Tower (515 E. Monroe St), alleging residents endured two weeks without heat, recurring utility outages, and severe sanitation issues.  South Bend Tribune

  • Heartland Small Animal Rescue in South Bend has a friendly 4-year-old Great Dane mix named Landon available for adoption. The 80-pound pup enjoys car rides and food and is a good match for families seeking a gentle pet.  South Bend Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame basketball (9-3) will host Purdue Fort Wayne at Purcell Pavilion on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. The Irish, coming back from an 82-58 win (against Evansville), aim to extend their perfect nonconference home record under coach Micah Shrewsberry.  South Bend Tribune
  • On Dec. 18, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and cornerback Leonard Moore earned unanimous All-America honors from the Football Writers Association, bringing the Irish total to 39, behind only Ohio State and Alabama. Their double selection is the first since 1990 (a rare feat).  South Bend Tribune
