- ➤ Residents with real Christmas trees must keep them watered and away from open flames to prevent dryness and fire hazards, officials said. The City of South Bend will begin tree pickup on Monday, Jan. 5 (removing all decorations before disposal is required). WSBT
- ➤ Downtown South Bend now has Ivy Alley Social House in the former Spenner Garage on Wayne Street, offering duck pin bowling, video games, and a bar plus a soon-to-open brewery. The development was supported by city grants and incentive programs. WSBT
- ➤ Airport officials have activated overflow parking for flights this weekend—travelers should arrive two hours early and follow signage for extra parking spaces at the airport. WSBT
- ➤ Families in South Bend can enjoy the Potawatomi Zoo’s Gift of Lights event this weekend. The event features new holiday displays, indoor story time, a holiday train, and visits with the grinch and Elsa; the zoo is open (Fri: 5-9, Sat: 5-9, Sun: 5-8 p.m.). WSBT

- ➤ Indiana's new jobless claims fell from 3,953 to 3,487 for the week ending Dec. 19 as the U.S. Department of Labor reported a drop in layoffs + nationwide unemployment claims also decreased. South Bend Tribune
