COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A fundraiser launched on November 30 delivered a new 2019 Chevy Silverado to local helper Marcellus (Mo) Riles. The campaign raised $22,000 from 500 donors in four weeks, also funding a year of maintenance plus plans for fuel and insurance coverage.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • South Bend residents celebrated Kwanzaa at the St. Joseph County Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Guests joined candlelight ceremonies & musical performances while city leaders honored seven community members for promoting the celebration's guiding principles.  South Bend Tribune
  • The South Bend community celebrated Kwanzaa Tuesday night at St. Joseph County Public Library with drumming, dancing, and educational performances honoring African heritage. Seven residents were awarded for each Kwanzaa principle and leaders plan to offer workshops to educate on the holiday next year (continuing their efforts year-round).  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Since June, The Tribune has reported on county food inspections that detail both priority violations and perfect scores among local eateries, and December's inspections will be released early next year.  South Bend Tribune

  • Freshman Mark Zackery IV, known for his football & basketball talent, played his first basketball game on Tuesday at Maples Pavilion against Stanford after clearing academics and practicing last week, marking the first two sport transition at Notre Dame since John Carlson.  South Bend Tribune
  • Tuesday, Dec. 30, Notre Dame beat Stanford 47-40 in its ACC opener on the West Coast — earning its first league road win since 2016-17 and boosting its record to 10-4 overall, with freshman Jalen Haralson scoring 13 points.  South Bend Tribune
