- ➤ New SNAP guidelines in Indiana took effect Thursday, Jan. 1, banning sugary drinks and candy from benefits. Retailers are updating over 70,000 UPC codes, and lists of acceptable items (such as potato chips, ice cream, and fruit juice) are posted to curb confusion. WSBT

- ➤ Beacon Health System welcomed its first baby of 2026, Baby Chozen, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend at 7:35 a.m. on January 1. He weighed eight pounds four ounces as Megan Dawe and Stephen Malone finished 12 hours of labor. WSBT

- ➤ Indiana State Parks hosted its First Day Hike at Potato Creek State Park yesterday as 229 hikers walked a one-mile trail from the Nature Center, spotting eagles and enjoying s'mores with hot drinks. The event promoted healthy outdoor activity in the local community. WSBT
