  • South Bend Chocolate Company offers Valentine's Day sweet treats and deals to help save the day for those who forgot a gift — favorites include chocolate-covered strawberries and heart-shaped candies, and its downtown store is open until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.  WSBT
  • Local florists complete months-long preparations for a busy Valentine's Day as they stock up on red roses and carnations. Palace of Flowers and Powell the Florist in the area will remain open today to serve customers seeking a special gift.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Holy Cross College announced on Feb. 13 a record gift of $2.25 million to fund a new residence hall chapel and a Center for Campus Ministry in its upcoming Student Union. The chapel will open in August (marking a historic milestone in the college’s 60-year history).  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A longstanding agreement that allows city ambulances to serve unincorporated areas could end if county officials do not extend the contract by July — residents worry that higher taxes could follow while city officials remain hopeful the win-win partnership continues.  WSBT

  • Chase Devine scored 31 points as Bremen beat Jimtown 61-54 in a conference title game on Friday, Feb. 13 at Bremen. The Lions improved to 18-1 and will face sectional play in the coming tournament schedule.  South Bend Tribune
