- ➤ Volunteers and 350 students planted 50 trees at Navarre Middle School last Friday to help South Bend work toward its urban tree canopy goal—an effort led by the Shirley Heinze Land Trust, South Bend Community School Corporation and Amazon volunteers. - ➤ Three people were arrested after an hours-long standoff near downtown South Bend on Thursday—police spotted 49-year-old Terrance Snelling Jr. entering a West Marion Street home where a firearm and suspected drugs were found—and also took 70-year-old Donald Anderson and 46-year-old Jameelah Thompson into custody, all facing several preliminary charges.
