COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The March to the Memorial took place Thursday in South Bend to honor 9/11 victims using a 21 mile route that began near Martin's at Erskine Plaza and ended at St. Patrick's Park—where the annual Ringing of the Bell ceremony occurred.  WSBT
  • On Sept. 10, participants climbed 110 flights of stairs at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend to honor firefighters—first responders to the 9/11 attack. The event brought the community together as they celebrated these local heroes.  South Bend Tribune
  • Allie, a brown and white Pit Bull Terrier mix aged 1½, is available for adoption at South Bend Animal Resource Center—her previous owner did not reclaim her—and she thrives in active homes with children and other dogs but needs careful introductions with cats.  South Bend Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Macy Gunnell, president of Turning Point USA’s Saint Mary’s chapter and a South Bend student, expressed deep sorrow over Charlie Kirk’s murder in Utah—she urged political change and will push for chapter recognition as a vigil with enhanced security is planned for today at 6 p.m. at Nfluence Church in Granger.  WSBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During construction at Concord Ox Bow Elementary School, principal Shad Hartsough uncovered 24-year-old drawings—marking Sept. 11—and messages signed by former students; current fourth graders then added their signatures before the area is covered again by a marker board.  ABC 57
  • Westview School Corporation accepted former superintendent Randall Miller's resignation after his arrest for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated — the board named Dr. Randall Zimmerly as interim superintendent and will hire a new leader by January.  WSBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Some areas in South Bend are seeing early fall changes as cool days and dry air make leaves lose their green — Mark Evans from Purdue Extension said that less sunlight triggers the color shift, and Bill Zimmerman warned that early changes can also signal tree root problems.  ABC 57

  • Justice Amy Coney Barrett will speak today at Notre Dame’s Leighton Concert Hall at 4 p.m. — she will discuss her upcoming book Listening to the Law as a peaceful protest is planned at the corner of Notre Dame Avenue.  ABC 57

HEALTH NEWS

  • Weight-loss drugs using GLP-1 helped Pat Delahanty lose 40 pounds after a heart attack — but doctors warn they can cause nausea, stomach pain, and serious issues if not used properly. Experts urge proper FDA-approved prescriptions and consultations as lawsuits and calls for tighter regulation grow.  WSBT

  • South Bend apartment rental listings climbed in August—showing a 9% rise from last month's $1,148 to $1,249 and marking a 4% increase from last year's $1,199 median—with one-bedroom units at $988 and two-bedroom units at $1,160.  South Bend Tribune

  • Notre Dame football practiced this week with freshman wideout Antavious Richardson taking scout-team snaps behind center to mimic Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed’s mix of running and throwing skills.
